Rev Robert Mitchell
Inspiration can change anyone. My life was changed the day I picked up the book the Science of Mind by Ernest Holmes. My life so changed that I became a minister and for me that was a complete reversal of my life because of what I had thought about God, church, and even people who went to church. I never did go to church. I believed there was a God, but God was for other people, those people who went to church. I thought if I left God alone “HE” (I don’t use the word He anymore when referring to God) would leave me alone. Funny the way people think, isn’t it? Within the pages of the Science of Mind I found that God was not only in my life, but God was my life, and that God was for me. I do not and cannot exist separate from God. I also found that church was a beautiful and healing experience and the “people” are very beautiful too. Now I am one of those people. Not one of those people who tell you that you have to believe as I do or that you are going “hell” if you are not saved. There is nothing to save, you are eternal because God is Eternal and you are one with God. The only thing we need to be saved from is negative experiences and that is where the Science of Mind comes in: it teaches me HOW to live a happy and positive life. It does not tell me what to think, it teaches me how to think. Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life.
My life now is all about living the principles of the Science of Mind and teaching those principles at my church, The Global Heart Dallas, a United Center for Spiritual Living Church. My path to the ministry and ordination led me through many classes, many experiences, many wonderful teachers and many wonderful books. Books were never a part of my life until the Science of Mind. Ernest Holmes’ writings inspired me to seek out other wisdom books and wisdom thinkers like: Meister Eckhart, Sri Aurobindo, Rabindranath Tagore, Emerson, Thomas Toward, Deepak Chropa, Joel Goldsmith, the Prophets in the Bible and many, many others.
Along the way I found the power of the famous quotes of others to move my own mind to think, and so to write. Phrases like, “You are a child of the universe, no less that the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here”( Desiderata) move me so that I have my own thoughts about who I am and who you are and what life is all about, and what is God. “God is Life; not some life but all Life. God is Action; not some action but all Action. God is Power; not some power but all Power. God is Presence; not some presence but all Presence. God is pure Spirit, filling all space” (Holmes). I believe there is only One Life and One Mind and so you and I are already infinitely connected to all the wisdom and beauty there is; passages like these allow us to make the connection and think for ourselves.
I started putting my thoughts in emails to my congregation in June of 2009 and that grew into this website. Most of these “short New Thought essays” usually focus on the topic of my talk the following Sunday, and they are posted about three times a week.
Please enjoy your stay on this site, tell your friends, and visit here often. Blessings
United Centers for Spiritual Living provides spiritual tools to transform our personal lives and make the world a better place. At United Centers for Spiritual Living, we promote a way of life that honors all paths to God and offer a spiritual community that enables people to live with a personal relationship with God. When God is the focus of our spirituality, then other areas of our lives fall into place—we are happier, we can do more for others, be better stewards of the Earth, and bring peace and harmony to the world. “The Science of Mind is the study of Life and the nature of the laws of thought; the conception that we live in a spiritual Universe; that God is in, through, around and for us.” Dr. Ernest Holmes
