Reality Check
FROM CHAPTER TEN: REALITY CHECK
A MONOTHEISTIC REALITY
So, is God real, and what about us? Illusion or Reality? Or both? Are we living in a One Life Reality, or an illusion made up of stories from a Bible that we may or may not believe, or a dream that some god or gods have imposed on us? We are told (by some) that life is an illusion, if that is true does that make God an illusion? Even Einstein said that Reality is merely an illusion.
The illusion is the masquerade or dream we live in – the illusion is that I am here and you are out there. “We are one, after all, you and I…”(De Chardin) The illusion is we make things appear to be what they are not. The reality is that this One Life is Perfect, Whole and Complete. God gave life Its All and All and over time we have clouded reality to fit our picture of life and not God’s. In essence, we have taken the image we were made in and changed it; that is the illusion.
A MIND REALITY
If we are ready to wake up to the fact that we direct our lives through consciousness we can find book after book on Mind and Cause & Effect, positive thinking, and creation. We will find that it is all about being both human and Divine in a sea of Law. From Plato to Aristotle, from Jesus to the enlightened minds of today, we are told over and over again: WE CREATE OUR LIVES BY OUR THOUGHTS. We live in this Mind and there is nothing but this Mind; we are individualized centers of this Mind; we eternally think into It, and It eternally creates. Because of the Mind’s receptivity and Its Unconditional Power, the moment we think, something happens. The basic principle sounds simple – everything that is visible and everything that we experience is an effect of something that occurs in the invisible. The something we may never know, but we experience it all the time.
A MIRROR REALITY
When we realize that life is the result of orderly laws and that these laws work for us and not against us, we can create happier lives by conscious use of them. God did not create a world for us to live in that is limited. There is a way, and we have complete access to it. When we realize that God and the universe are on our side, we can stand in front of the mirror and look at things a little differently and, therefore, experience life differently.
A MAGICAL REALITY
When I found my spiritual path I was reacquainted with the idea of magic. Like other things, spirituality offers what would seem like magic to a lot of people. I was told (and I do believe) that I could have everything I wanted and that my dreams could come true, but it was not magic. It was work. The work was changing the beliefs about life that had changed since I was that child…
To make magic happen I had to go back to believing in magic. I had to let go of the limited ideas I had come to believe about life. In healing the false beliefs I found that the Kingdom is here and now, and not some far off kingdom that I had to fly away to, but I did learn how to fly. I learned that, “All our dreams can come true – if we have the courage to pursue them.”(Walt Disney) I learned that all the magic I could ever hope for was in me and all around me. I learned that this kind of magic was not slight of hand or trickery or illusion, but the wonderful things that come with belief. I learned that good things were not out of the ordinary, but the way things should be. I learned with faith and God all things are possible, even magic.
from the poem: Parallel Universes
“Riding the edges of space and time,
A cosmic tourist with an infinite pass,
Worlds upon worlds racing side by side,
As I Look through the Looking-Glass.”
